About Surah Al Lahab
The 111th surah of the Quran is Surah Al Lahab. The Surah makkiyah is this one, which has five verses. The reason it is known as Surah Al Lahab is because the letter mentions Abu Lahab, who enjoys hurting the Messenger of Allah, and how Allah responds to him by creating a hell with raging fire (al lahab). In verse three, the term lahab (), which represents Abu Lahab’s destiny, is referenced. Surat Al Masad is another name for him. adapted from the final verse of this letter, where he made a reference to Abu Lahab’s wife. Due to the fact that the word of God begins with a word, it is also known as The Letter of Tabbat.
Asbabun Nuzul Surah Al Lahab
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ascended mount Al-Safa one day and he called out, “O people! Come at once!” The Quraysh gathered before him, and the Prophet said, “Verily, I have been sent to warn you of a severe punishment before you. If I told you an enemy was preparing to attack you this morning or evening, would you believe me?” Abu Lahab said, “Is it for this you have called us? May you perish!” Then, Allah revealed the verse, “Perish the hand of Abu Lahab!” (111:1) Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3363
