Because it was transmitted while the Prophet Muhammad SAW was still residing in Makkah and had not yet made the migration to Medina, Surah An-Nas is categorized as a Makkiyah surah. The 114th or final surah of the Qur’anic mushaf is Surah An-Nas.

The Surah An-Nas and the letter of Al-Falaq were transmitted to the Messenger of Allah SAW, according to a number of reports. Both verses belong to the al-Mu’awwidzatain surah group, which also includes the An-Nas, Al-Falaq, and Al-Ikhlas surahs. These three letters are said to be in a quite high position.

Ibn ‘Abis al-Juhani reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him, “O Ibn ‘Abis, shall I not tell you about the best way to seek refuge for those who seek it?” He said, “Of course, O Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet said, “These two chapters: Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak (113:1) and, Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the people (114:1).”Source: Sunan al-Nasā’ī 5432
