Dua Qunoot in English and Arabic With Transliteration

Reciting dua in prayers is highly recommended including the dua that we will discuss this time, namely the qunoot prayer.

What Are Dua Qunoot

Qunoot is a prayer that is intended to be recited in a certain prayer and in a certain way that is performed at the last rakaat in that prayer. And for you followers of the madzhab of Imam asy-Shafi’i, then perhaps we are familiar with qunoot and with the recitation of his prayers, which in this madzhab, qunoot is performed in the dawn prayer at the second rakaat. But how exactly is the law of performing qunut and whether this prayer we have mentioned be read in qunut?

Qunoot prayers are usually recited in the subuh prayer (fajr pryer), linguistically the word Qunoot comes from the Arabic قنوت which means standing. Meanwhile, in fiqh, qunoot prayer is a prayer request that is read on one of the pillars of prayer, namely i’tidal .

There are two types of Qunoot, namely:

1. Qunut Rotibah

that is, those that are recited at subuh prayers or are also commonly read at witir prayers in the month of Ramadan

2. Qunoot Nazilah

It is a dua that is recited in the fardu prayer, but this prayer is read when asking for Allah SWT protection from the disaster that is happening.

I seek Your forgiveness and I repent unto You.  Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the withdrawal of Your blessing and the change of Your protection (from me) and from the sudden wrath of You, and from every displeasure of You.
O Allah, lift from us the calamity, the pandemic, the disasters and the tribulations, which are apparent and that which are hidden, especially from our country and other countries (around the world).
O Allah, grant us and other countries (around the world) safety and well-being.
O Allah, grant victory to the oppressed in all places.
Our Lord, give us in this world (that which is) good and in the Hereafter (that which is) good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. And Peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions.

Other Dua In Qunoot

In Qunoot it is allowed to read any prayer other than the above prayer. And it is narrated that Umar ibn Khattab and ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan recited the prayer in his qunoot:

اللهُمَّ آتِي نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا، أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلَهَا

Allāhumma āti nafsī taqwāha, wa zakkihā anta khairu man zakkāha, anta waliyyuhā wa maulāhā

O Allah! Grant me piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. (Sahih Muslim)

Hadith Qunoot

there are several hadiths that narrate about qunoot
  • Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he said, “Allah listened to those who praise Him,” in the last cycle of evening prayer, he stood to supplicate, “O Allah, save ‘Ayyash ibn Abi Rabiah. O Allah, save Al-Walid ibn al-Walid. O Allah, save Salamah ibn Hisham. O Allah, save the oppressed among the believers. O Allah, be hard on the tribe of Mudar. O Allah, place drought in their years like the years of Joseph.”(Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6393, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 675)
  • Hasan ibn Ali reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, taught me some words to say in the Witr prayer, “O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, secure me among those You have secured, protect me among those You have protected, bless me in what You have given me, and save me from the evil You have decreed. Verily, You alone decree and none can issue decree over You. Verily, he cannot be humiliated whoever is protected by You. Blessed are You, our Lord, the Almighty.”(Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 464)
  • Ubaid ibn Umair reported: Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, supplicated after bowing in prayer and he said, “O Allah, forgive the believing men and believing women and the Muslim men and Muslim women, bring their hearts together and reconcile between them, support them against Your enemies and their enemies. O Allah, the curse is upon those who disbelieved among the people of the Scripture, who obstruct people from Your path and have denied Your Messenger and have fought Your allies. O Allah, oppose their words and shake their footing and send upon them Your strength which the criminals cannot repel. In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful, we seek Your help and we seek Your forgiveness. We praise You, we do not deny You, and we disavow and abandon whoever is wicked to You. In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful, You alone we worship, we pray to You, we prostrate for You, we strive for You, we fear Your punishment and we hope in Your mercy. Verily, Your punishment of the unbelievers will be carried out.”(Source: al-Sunan al-Kubrá lil-Bayhaqī 3143)
