English Translation
“O people of faith! Do not violate the shirks of the sanctity of Allah, do not (violate the honor) of the haram months, do not (disturb) the hadyu (sacrificial animals) and qala’id (the marked sacrificial animals), and do not (also) disturb those who visit Baitulharam; they seek the gift and pleasure of their Lord. But when you have completed the ihram, then you may hunt. Do not let (your) hatred towards a people because they hinder you from the Masjidilharam, pushing you to go beyond the limits (to them). And help ye in (working out) virtue and piety, and do not help in sinning and enmity. Be devoted to God, truly, God is very heavy in His torment.” (Q.S Al Maidah: 2)
Interpretation
The following verse contains the laws of God relating to the ordinances for the performance of the hajj. O people of faith! Do not violate the shirks of the sanctity of Allah, that is, all the practices done in carrying out the hajj such as the ordinances of performing tawaf and sa’i, and the places of doing it, such as the Kakbah, Safa, and Marwah, do not violate them by hunting when in a state of ihram nor violate the honor of the illegitimate months, namely the months of Zulkaidah, Zulhijah, Muharram, and Rajab, nor do you violate his honor by fighting in that month except to defend yourself when attacked.
