English Transaltion

“O people of faith! Fulfill promises. Farm animals are justified for you, except those that will be mentioned to you, by not allowing hunting when you are in berihram (Hajj or Umrah). Verily God ordains the law according to what He wills.” (Q.S Al Maidah : 1)

Interpretation

This surah begins with a command to every believer to fulfill the promises that have been pledged, both promises to God and promises to fellow human beings. O people of faith! Fulfill promises, that is, promises between man and God, man with man, and man with himself, as long as they do not forbid the lawful and do not justify the illegitimate. Among the promises of God are His laws decreed to you, namely that farm animals, namely camels, cows, goats, are lawful for you after being slaughtered lawfully, except those that will be mentioned to you as haram, which is what is mentioned in the third verse of this epistle, and also by not justifying hunting when you are having hajj or umrah. Indeed, God ordains lawfulness and haram according to what He wills, according to His knowledge and His wisdom.
