Transliteration

Wa iż ta`ażżana rabbukum la`in syakartum la`azīdannakum wa la`ing kafartum inna ‘ażābī lasyadīd

English Translation

And (remember) when your Lord declared, “Verily if ye are grateful, I will undoubtedly add (favors) to you, but if ye deny (My favors), then surely My doom is very heavy.” (Q.S Ibrahim : 7)

Interpretation

In this verse, Allah SWT again reminds His servant to be eternally grateful for all the favors he has bestowed. If they carry it out, then the favor will be added by Him. On the contrary, God also reminds those who deny His favors, and do not want to be grateful that He will inflict His very painful doom on them.

Thanking God’s mercy can be done in a variety of ways. First, with heartfelt utterances; second, accompanied by deeds, that is, to use the grace for the purposes for which He desires. In everyday life, we can see that people who are generous and like to inflict their property for the public good and help people, generally never fall into poverty or misery. His sustenance is constantly increasing, his wealth is increasing, and his life is happy, loved, and respected in the association.

On the contrary, rich people who are miserly, or like to use their wealth for things that God does not want, such as gambling or picking up usury, then their wealth does not increase, even shrinking. In addition, he was always hated and condemned by the crowd, and in the afterlife received severe punishment.
