Umar bin Khattab said: “No one is given pleasure after Islam, which is better than the pleasure of having a pious brother (semuslim). When you find one of your righteous friends, hold it tight.” (Quutul Qulub 2/17)

اَللَّهُمَّ وَفِّقْنِي لِمُوَافَقَةِ اْلأَبْرَارَ، وَجَنِّبْنِي مُرَافَقَةَ اْلأَشْرَارِ، وَآوِنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ اِلَى دَارِ الْقَرَارِ بِإِلَهِيَّتِكَ يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
Transliteration
Allâhumma waffiqnî limuwâfaqatil abrâr, wa jannibnî murâfaqatal asrâr, wa âwinî birahmatika ilâ dâril qarâr bi ilahiyyatika yâ Ilâhal ‘âlamîn.”
English Translation
“O Allah, guide me to be friendly with those who do virtue. Keep me away from friendships with people who commit ugliness. Pour out upon me Thy mercy till the day of judgment, with Thy Divine, O Lord of hosts.”
Hadith On Friendship
- ‘Amr ibn ‘Abasah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah Almighty said: My love is a right upon those who befriend each other for my sake. My love is a right upon those who defend each other for my sake.”Source: al-Mu’jam al-Ṣaghīr 1092
- Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A man is upon the religion of his best friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.”Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2378
