Duas In the Morning, Prayer is a human way to communicate with the Creator, Allah Almighty. From praying, we can give thanks, offer supplications, and other things as a guide for life in the world.

Many prayers should be practiced regularly, such as daily prayers when you want to do something, and even prayers in the morning as a good start to open the day.

The Messenger of Allah SAW has also taught that narrates some prayers that are read in the morning as follows:

1. Morning prayer to surrender to Allah Almighty

Imam An-Nawawi in the book of Al-Adzkar quoted the prayer of the Messenger of Allah who started the morning by surrendering only to Allah Almighty as God Almighty.

Here’s the prayer reading:

Arabic 

اَللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا وَبِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ النُّشُوْرُ

Translitertion

Allāhumma bika ashbahnā, wa bika amsainā, wa bika nahyā, wa bika namūtu, wa ilaikan nusyūru.

English Translation 

“O God, with Thee I am in the morning, with Thee I am in the dark, with Thee we live, with Thee we die. Only to You (we) return,” (HR Abu Dawud, At-Turmudzi, Ibn Majah, and others). 

2. Morning prayer to ask for the protection of Allah Almighty

In addition to the above prayers, there are also other prayers that the Prophet recited in the morning as narrated by the Companions of Ibn Mas’ud in Sahih Muslim as follows:

Arabic 


أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الملْكُ للهِ، وَالحَمْدُ للهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ لَهُ الملْكُ وَلَهُ الحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ، رَبِّ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَخَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَهَا وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَيْلَةِ وَشَرِّ مَا بَعْدَهَا، رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الكَسْلِ وَسُوْءِ الكِبَرِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ فِي النَّارِ وَعَذَابٍ فِي القَبْرِ

Transliteration

Ashbahnā wa ashbahal mulku lillāhi wal hamdu lillāhi, lā ilāha illallāhu wahdahū lā syarīka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘alā kulli syai‘in qadīr. Rabbi, as’aluka khaira mā fī hādzihil lailata wa khaira mā ba‘dahā, wa a‘ūdzu bika min syarri mā fī hādzihil lailata wa khaira mā ba‘dahā. Rabbi, a‘ūdzu bika minal kasli wa sū’il kibari. A‘ūdzu bika min ‘adzābin fin nāri wa ‘adzābin dil qabri.

English Translation 

 “We and the power of God are in the dark. All praise be to God. There is no god but an omnipotent God, no ally to Him. To Him all power and praise. He has power over all things. My Lord, I beseech Thee for goodness tonight and the night after. I beg for Your protection from evil tonight and the night after. My Lord, I beseech Your protection from the laziness and tavern of old age. I beg for Your protection from the torments of hell and the torments of the grave,”

3. The short prayers that the Apostle recited every morning and evening

Not only praying in the morning, but Prophet Muhammad SAW also always prayed in the afternoon because morning and afternoon are considered a good momentum to ask for benefits and ask for the protection of Allah SWT for the next 12 hours.

The prayers that the Apostle read both in the morning and evening include:

  • The prayer of protection of His creation (read 3 times):

Arabic

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Transliteration

A‘ūdzu bi kalimātillāhit tāmmāti min syarri mā khalaq.

English Translation

“I take refuge in the perfect sentence of Allah from the evil of His creation,” (HR Muslim and Ibn Sinni).

  • Prayers of protection from lust, satan, and his allies:

Arabic 

اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ، عَالِمَ الغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيْكَهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِيْ وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ
Transliteration

Allāhumma fāthiras smāwāti wal ardhi, ‘ālimal ghaibi was syahādah, rabba kulli syai’in wa malīkah, asyhadi an lā ilāha illā anta. A‘ūdzu bika min syarri nafsī wa syarris syathāni wa syirkih.

English Translation 

“My God, the creator of heaven and earth, who knows the real and real, the god and ruler of all things. I testify there is no god but You. I take refuge in the Mua from the evils of my passions, the evils of satan and his allies,” (HR Abu Dawud and At-Turmudzi).

  • Read two sentences of the creed with God and angels as witnesses:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أَشْهَدُكَ وَأَشْهَدُ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ وَمَلَائِكَتَكَ وَجَمِيْعَ خَلْقِكَ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ
Transliteration

Allāhumma innī ashbahtu asyhaduka wa asyhadu hamalata ‘arsyika wa malā’ikatika wa jamī‘a khalqika annaka antallāhul ladzī lā ilāha illā anta, wa anna Muhammadan ‘abduka wa rasūluk.

English Translation 

“My God, I am in the morning, I watch You and witness the angel of arasy, Your angel, and all Your creatures that You are Allah, there is no god but You, and Muhammad is Your servant and apostle,” (HR Abu Dawud and At-Turmudzi).
