“The word ablution comes from wadha’ah whose meaning is cleanliness.”
In the book of Mughnil Muhtaj Ilaa Ma’rifati Ma’aani Alfadzi al-Minhaj, in terms of syar’i according to Imam Asy-Sharbini:

“Ablution according to the term syar’i is a special activity that begins with intention. Or the activity of using water on a special limb that begins with intention.”

It means: “The Prophet SAW said, “Whoever abides for prayer, and then he repairs his ablutions (taking into account the conditions, fardhu, and adab), then he performs the prayers, then he will come out of his guilt like the day on which he was born his mother.”
