10 Virtues of Reading Basmalah
1. Bismillah is the opening word of the Al-Quran
2. Prophet Muhammad SAW once wrote a letter that he sent to kings
3. Basmalah is the content of a letter sent by Baginda Nabi Sulaiman a.s

“The queen said: O ministers, I got a noble letter. The letter is from Solomon, the content: Bismillahir rahmanir rahiim. You shall not be arrogant before me and come to me submissively.” (QS. An-Naml: 29 – 31).
The main intention of the Prophet Solomon to send this letter was to invite the Queen and her people to convert to Islam. Given the virality of this goal, the Prophet Solomon did not forget to start with basmalah.
4. The reading of basmalah becomes the guardian of various forms of worship
Such as ablution, or bathing and tayamum, in the opinion of some scholars. From Abu Hurairah, the Prophet s.a.w said :

“There is no ablution for one who does not say the name of Allah (reading basmalah).” (HR. Abu Dawud)
The context of the hadith above is concerned with the issue of ablution, but the scholars have instructed it to bathe and tayamum, because they are all sanctifying activities.
5. Bismillah for protection from demons and armies when we are eating and traveling.
People who eat or drink by preceding reading the previous basmalah then the devil cannot afford to eat it. From ‘Aisyah radhiyallahu ‘anha, the Messenger of Allah s.a.w said :

“If one of you eats, then let him say the name of Allah Ta’ala. If he forgets to say the name of Allah Ta’ala at the beginning, let him say: “Bismillaahi awwalahu wa aakhirohu (in the name of Allah at the beginning and end)”.” (HR. Tirmidzi)

6. Guarding yourself from demonic disturbances while on edge

لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْتِىَ أَهْلَهُ قَالَ: “بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا“، فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ يُقَدَّرْ بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَدٌ فِى ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ شَيْطَانٌ أَبَدًا
English Translation
“If one of you (the husband) wants to go to his wife, and he reads the prayer: ‘Bismillah, Allahumma Jannibna Assyaiton Wa Jannibis Syaithon Ma Rozaqtana’, then if Allah reveals (the birth of) the child from them, then the devil will not be able to harm the child forever” (HR. Bukhari no.141 and Muslim no.1434)
7. Bismillah is a barrier between the view of the jinn and the human aurat.

سَتْرُ مَا بَيْنَ أَعْيُنِ الجِنِّ وَعَوْرَاتِ بَنِي آدَمَ: إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُهُمُ الخَلَاءَ، أَنْ يَقُولَ: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
English Translation
“The barrier between the jinn’s eyes and the aurat of the house of Adam, when you enter the restroom, say bismillah.” (HR. Tirmidzi).
8. Bismillah is a satanic barrier to opening the place of valuables.

“Close the vessel, tie the pottery (a place to store water made of leather), close the door, turn off the lantern (firelight), for indeed the devil is unable to open the bound pottery, cannot open the door, nor can it reveal the closed vessel. If thou hast not gained a lid except by crossing over his vessel a branch, and saying the name of God, he should do.” (HR. Muslim)
9. Bismillah is able to block demons from staying in the house

“If a man enters his house and he remembers the name of God when he enters and when eating, then the devil will shout: ‘There is no place to stay for you and no dinner.’ But if he does not remember God when he enters then satan says, ‘You get a place to stay’ and if he does not remember God’s name when eating then satan invites his friend, ‘You get a ration of stay and dinner’.” (HR. Muslim).
10. Bismillah is an absolute requirement for the halal of slaughter animals
