Overview Of Surah Al-ikhlas

Surah al-Ikhlas is the 112th surah in the Quran, and belongs to the makiyyah surah group because it was handed down in mecca. This surah is a short surah because it is only 4 verses. The things contained in this surah include the establishment of God’s oneness in perfection and godliness.

Benefits And Rewards Of Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas

Surah Al Ikhlas just like other surahs in the Qur’an has a very large secret and benefit contained in it.
It is called surah Al Ikhlas because it can save those who read it from the difficulties of the world and the difficulties of the akherat and from the difficulties when facing the sakaratul of death and be kept away from the darkness of the grave and from the terrible horrors of the doomsday. And here are some of the benefits of surah Al-ikhlas that we summarized:

1. Getting Forgiveness Of Sins

One of the benefits of reading Surah Al-Ikhlas is to get forgiveness of sins. A Muslim who always reads and practices surat al Ikhlas, will get forgiveness of sins from Allah Almighty. This is as in the Hadith of Mihjan ibn al Adru’ Radhiyallahu ‘anhu, he said: 
Indeed Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam entered to the mosque, suddenly (there is) someone who has finished from his prayer, and he was do tasyahud, then he said : “O Allah, indeed I ask (to You) that indeed You (ar) the Almighty, everything depend on You, He neither begets nor is born and nor is there to Him any equivalent, forgive my sins, (because You the Grat and Merciful,” then Rasulullah Shallallalhu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Indeed he has been forgiven (his sins),” he said it three times. (Narrated by Abu Dawud, 1/259 nummber 985; an Nasaa-i, 3/52 number 1301; Ahmad, 4/338 number 18995; and others. This hadith is validated by Syaikh al Albani in the Shaheeh Abi Dawud and Shaheeh an Nasaa-i)

2. Bridge of Entry to Heaven

Every Muslim who consistently reads and practices the surah Ikhlas will be protected by Allah Ta’ala. Surat al Ikhlas is also a passageway for Muslims to reach heaven. This is as mentioned in the Historical Hadith of Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu ‘anhu who said:
Abu Huraira reported: I met with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he heard a man reciting the verses, “Say: He is Allah, the One, the Eternal Refuge,” (112:1-2). The Prophet said, “It is necessary for him.” I said, “What is necessary?” The Prophet said, “Paradise.”Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2897

3. Facilitated sustenance

The benefit of reading Al Ikhlas’ letter, which is that it will be given convenience in seeking sustenance. If every Muslim has received the blessings of Allah Almighty, then the sustenance of that person will be facilitated. For this reason, everyone should always try hard to reach the blessings of Allah SWT.

4. Getting Protection from Allah Almighty

The next benefits of reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas is receiving Allah’s Almighty protection. Every Muslim who reads the letter of Al Ikhlas coupled with the letters of Al Falaq and An Naas would benefit from it. This is in accordance with Uqbah ibn Amir al Juhani’s hadith, which reads:

“When I led the vehicle of Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam in a war, suddenly he said : “O Uqbah, say,” I also heard, then he said (again) : “O Uqbah, say,” I also heard. And he said three times, then I asked : “What do you say? He said : “Say قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَ”, then he read until finished.

Then he read قُلْ أَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّالفَلَق, I also read with him until finished. The he read قُلْ أَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ, I also read with him until finished. Then he said :

“No one who is protected (from every badness) like those who are protected themselves with those (three surah).” (Narrated by an Nasaa-i, 8/251 number 5430-5431 and others. This hadith is validated by Syaikh al Albani in the Shaheeh an Nasaa-i)

5. Loved by Allah Almighty And His Messenger

Every Muslim wants this, therefore always read this surah. as the hadith narrated by Aisyah RA follows:
“Indeed Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam sent someone to a group of soldiers, and that people led others in their prayer, he read and finished (his read) with أَحَدٌ قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَ, then when they were back, they told about that to Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, then he said : “Ask him, why he did that?” Then they asked to him. He answered :
“Because this surah (contents) the nature of ar Rahman, and I love to read this surah,” then the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said : “Tell him, indeed Allah loves him, too.” (Narrated by al Bukhari, 6/2686 number 6940; Muslim, 1/557 number 813 and others)

6. Protected from the distractions of demons during sleep

As good Muslims, we must always follow what the Messenger of Allah PBUH did, including those recorded by Aisyah RA below:

Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. 

7. Reading this surah is equal to one-third of the Qur’an 

We know for sure when we read the Quran then we will get such a great reward, what’s more, reading almost a third of the Quran. If you feel that it is still difficult to do so you can do as the following hadith conveys:
“Indeed I heard other read قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ repeatedly, then when morning, he came to Rasulullah and told that matter to him. And as if he underestimated that surah, then Rasulullah Shallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said
“For the sake of Substance that my soul on His hand, indeed that surah is equal to a thid Qur’an.” (Narrated by al Bukhari, 4/1915 nnumber 4726, 6/2449 number 6267, 6/2685 number 6939; Abu Dawud, 2/72 number 1461; an Nasaa-i, 2/171 number 995 and others)
